Ancestry Revealed is a community service program of the Central Florida Genealogical Society and is entering its fifth year. Volunteers help seniors to complete a four-generation pedigree chart, along with a family group sheet, either in their independent or assisted living facility or at various churches and public venues. They are also given various documents that are found along the way such as census records, marriage certificates, ship manifests, naturalization papers, etc. All this info is to be passed down to their children and grandchildren. The program operates from September through May.

If you are researching your own family you already know how to complete a pedigree chart. Training is available if needed and/or we can pair you up with a seasoned volunteer during live sessions. If you are interested in helping others in this extremely rewarding program, and whether you can volunteer weekly or only occasionally, we can use your help.

Thanks to all our past and current volunteers! Without you, there would be no program.

Live workshop at The Mayflower Retirement Community in Winter Park

Workshops are held on two Wednesdays for each facility, one week apart. Two time slot choices offered are: 10:00 am to 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. We arrive 30 minutes early to set up our laptops and get connected to Wi-Fi. A laptop or tablet is needed (occasionally we have an extra laptop if needed). You don’t have to commit to doing every workshop; you can pick and choose which schedule works for you.

The seniors we have helped have been thrilled beyond expectation at the results, as well as the volunteers have. Some volunteers will attest that their research skills have been greatly expanded with this program. So even if you haven’t been doing genealogy for a long time, this program can help you advance and hone your skills.

If you are interested in helping others in this rewarding program or would like more information, please contact Carol Mead, the program director.
