Ancestry Revealed

Ancestry Revealed was a community outreach program of the Central Florida Genealogical Society and took place for six years. Our volunteers worked one-on-one with seniors to complete a four-generation pedigree chart at workshops that were held either in their independent living facility, a public venue, or at senior centers. The seniors were also given various documents that are found while researching, such as census records, marriage certificates, ships’ manifests, naturalization papers, and more. All this information can be passed down to their children and grandchildren. The program operated from September through May.

Genealogy volunteers were trained if needed and/or were paired up with a seasoned volunteers during workshops.

Live workshop at The Mayflower Retirement Community in Winter Park

Workshops were held on two consecutive Wednesdays for each facility, one week apart.

The seniors we have helped have been thrilled beyond expectation at the results. Our volunteers say that their research skills were greatly expanded through the program.

Unfortunately, this program was discontinued during COVID and never re-established.
